Thermal treatment for complex hazardous waste

Thermal treatment is used for hazardous waste that cannot be handled through other suitable recycling or treatment processes. Depending on the waste characteristics and facility requirements, different incineration technologies and treatment routes are available. Within the REMONDIS network, specialised facilities treat waste such as chemicals, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, solvents, refrigerants and other hazardous substances. The appropriate facility is selected according to the composition and properties of the individual waste stream.

Thermal waste treatment: our solutions

REMONDIS Industrie Service provides thermal treatment solutions for a wide range of waste streams. Where technically feasible, suitable materials and energy can be recovered and returned to further use. The REMONDIS network includes thermal recovery and hazardous waste incineration facilities for different waste types and treatment requirements. Depending on the composition and properties of the waste, treatment may involve the recovery of recyclable materials, the production of secondary fuels or thermal recovery. Hazardous waste that cannot be recycled or otherwise recovered can be directed to suitable incineration facilities. During thermal treatment, energy may be recovered in the form of heat, steam or electricity, while suitable waste streams can also be used as substitutes for primary fuels. The appropriate treatment route depends on the characteristics of the waste and the technical and regulatory requirements of the respective facility.
 

Incineration of hazardous and toxic waste

All over Europe, we have facilities designed to incinerate hazardous and toxic waste. These vary according to the type of waste treated there and include incinerators with fluidised-bed combustion, grate firing and static or rotary kilns. As well as specialising in the destruction of ozone-depleting substances (ODSs) such as CFCs and HCFCs, we have the technology and expertise to dispose of obsolete chemicals, herbicides, pesticides and other toxic substances. This is done in line with strict legal requirements, while monitoring and documenting the Destruction and Removal Efficiency (DRE).
